ALEG
Weekly Report - Week 5, 1 June 2001
What I've done
- Dataloading!
- Loaded the DRAMA bib published works - 1122 new works, 977 existing works
- Some more minor changes to formatting, templates, edit checks, bug fixes.
- More configuration of the new machine - created the database, imported
data from the existing machine, configured the application and
ran some performance tests.
There were a few problems with the
operating system configuration which prevented running Oracle
properly (now fixed). There were some performance problems, part
of the ongoing issues surrounding the Oracle cost-based-optimizer,
in this case how it is interacting with the interMedia text server.
It is going OK at the moment, although more by good luck than
good management. I've asked an Oracle tuning expert for some
pointers and advice.
A backup of the new server has been copied to spare disk on
libadfa, and procedures have been written to perform nightly
backups (not completed yet). There is currently a problem performing
an export of the database - it crashes with a "bus error", which
may indicate we need a patch for something.
The extra disk has arrived and will be installed Friday AM (June 1).
Hope to complete configuration and cut over to the new server next week.
- I am taking tomorrow (Friday) off.
Next Week
- Finalise configuring and loading the new machine.
- Move the documentation web to the new machine.
- To Do list. Work through the (mostly) minor issues on the to-do
list provided by Annette/Kerry/Marie-Louise. I've got a few more
lists from Annette and Kerry which I didn't get to this week
due to the time taken configuring the new machine.
Next few weeks
- First known dates.
- The new thesaurus is expected to be available for loading soon.
