Weekly Report - Week 4, 25 May 2001
What I've done
- Dataloading!
- Ben/Jacqui/Merja have finished the marathon job of processing
the apparent duplicate titles and manually merging or tagging
entries to load (suspected duplicates which weren't). The
tagged entries have been loaded.
- DRAMA bib - 1479 unpublished plays and 191 radio plays added
- Lu Rees bib - an additional 1500 new works after less strict name
matching and manual matching of agent names
- AMLC - about 200 new works using less strict name matching
Loading the rest of the DRAMA bib is itself a big drama due
to the richness of data stored as notes in the DRAMA bib. Some
work was done this week to clarify the procedures, but even more
needs to be done.
- Added a basic agent attribute search facility.
- Some more minor changes to formatting, templates, edit checks, bug fixes.
- The tape drive on the loan machine from Sun continued to cause
problems. Sun replaced it on Tuesday morning, and backups have been working fine
since.
- More configuration of the machine - tomcat and apache were set
up. Hope to complete configuration next week.
- For the metropolitan newspapers, converted periodical issue
titles of the format THE DAILY RAG (XYZ) into THE DAILY RAG but
added XYZ to the section of each of the contents of that issue.
There are some issues with magazines enclosed within the
weekend papers being periodical issues in their own right, not
just sections, which were discussed late in the week and need
to be fixed soon. This exercise now means that sometimes 2 or more
issues of THE DAILY RAG appear with the same date (as the section
has been dropped from the title) - these should be merged programatically
some time....
Next Week
- Load the Drama bibliography...
- Configuring and loading the new machine. Set up the
database, copy data.
- Uncertainty -v- deduced: an issue arose this week whether
our single "uncertain" checkbox is enough! Discussion has
started and a decision should be reached next week.
- To Do list. Work through the (mostly) minor issues on the to-do
list provided by Annette/Kerry/Marie-Louise.
Next few weeks
- First known dates.
- The new thesaurus is expected to be available for loading soon.
