The Australian Literature Resource
The AustLit Personal Alert Service allows you to define up to 10 different searches to find newly added or updated records of interest to you.
Typical uses of the Personal Alert Service could be to inform you of:
- new works by Thomas Keneally
- new critical works about Peter Carey's writing
- new picture books by women
- new poems about 'Politics & government' or narrower topics
Searches are automatically executed by the system using the criteria YOU nominate and the results of the searches are emailed to your specified mail address.
The Personal Alert Service allows you to choose:
- the frequency of the search - either weekly or monthly
- whether you are only interested in new works added to AustLit, or whether you are also interested in tracking updates made to existing works
- whether you want to be notified only when something is found matching your search criteria, or whether you also want to be notified even when there are no results.
All AustLit subscribers can use the Personal Alert Service. You need to register to use the Personal Alert Service by providing a unique AustLit Personal Alert Service userid and password and by providing an email address to which Personal Alert Service search results will be emailed.
The AustLit Personal Alert Service userid and password are required to maintain your privacy by preventing others from either viewing or updating your Personal Alert Service queries.
The registration process is as follows:
- You decide on your own userid and password which you enter onto the Personal Alert Service registration web page. Your userid must be unique; if it is not, you will be asked to choose a new userid. You are also asked to supply the email address to which reports will be emailed.
- The system will send a test/confirmatory email to the email address you have supplied to check that it is a valid email address and that you can access email sent to that address. The test email will contain a confirmation link URL - a URL which you must click on or paste into your browser to confirm your registration.
You will then be able to define Personal Alert Service searches.
Please Note: The Personal Alert Service requires browser cookies to be enabled for it to operate. The cookies are used to authenticate requests made by you once you have logged on and hence to protect the privacy of your Personal Alert Service queries. The cookies are not used to track your browsing or for any purpose other than authentication.
Every 12 months you will be sent an email asking you to confirm that you want your Personal Alert Service searches to be retained. You will be sent a URL, and clicking on that URL and entering your AustLit Personal Alert Service userid and password is all that is required to keep the searches running. If you do not respond to this request within 1 month, your Personal Alert Service searches and your Personal Alert Service userid and password will be deleted.
Your AustLit Personal Alert Service userid and password is required to define, view, or update your Personal Alert Service searches. When you forget your AustLit Personal Alert Service userid or password simply enter your email address on the Personal Alert Service password retrieval web page and your access details will be emailed to you.
The email address you provide to the AustLit Personal Alert Service will only be used for:
- sending you your Personal Alert Service reports
- informing you of a forgotten userid or password
- reminding you to confirm your Personal Alert Service queries every 12 months
- sending you information on any changes in the operation of the AustLit Personal Alert Service system.
Neither your email address nor information on your Personal Alert Service searches will ever be revealed to a third party.
If you are ready to register to become a user of the Personal Alert Service system, proceed to the Personal Alert Service registration web page.
