'The Courier is Ballarat and district's leading provider of news and information.

'We have been keeping our readers informed and entertained since our first edition on June 10, 1867. The editor of that first edition, Robert Clark, promised to "speak out boldly" on issues which impact on Ballarat. We continue to do that today and are as committed as ever to being a strong advocate for this region.

'Our mission statement is "to build our community through a quality newspaper which is responsible and accountable".'

The office of the Courier newspaper was damaged by 'an extensive fire' in Sturt Street 'on the night of January 29th' 1868 (Illustrated Sydney News 4.45 (22 February 1868: 306)).
