Notes

  • Kendall's initial version of this poem appeared in the Empire in July 1865 with the title 'The Glen of the White Man's Grave'. At about this time it was also published in a booklet having this same titile. Kendall subsequently revised the poem, and changed the title to 'The Glen of Arrawatta'. It is this version that appears in Leaves from Australian Forests (1869). Kendall then made a further revision, which was published in 1881 by the Art Union of Victoria in an illustrated booklet, under the title 'Orara'. The 1881 version is considered to be a different work.
