An advertisement placed in the Hobart Mercury on 30 October 1885 (page 2) announces that proceeds from sales of A Couple of Cups Ago, and Other Stories will be devoted to the benefit of Swan's widow and family who 'have not been left in good circumstances' following Swan's death the previous year.
