'As the great majority of Harpur's poems exist in several versions, it is important that readers interested in the detail of Harpur's work should be able to identify the texts which have been selected according to the editorial principles discussed in the Preface to The Poetical Works of Charles Harpur. This information was supplied by the editor but inadvertently omitted by the publisher.'
