    Type of character Primary.
    Point of view First person.

Protagonist Joe O'Loughlin is recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the first novel, The Suspect, at age forty-two.

In a 2015 interview, Robotham noted, 'Truth be told, in 2002 when I first wrote Joe, I did not know much about Parkinson's and never intended to carry him on. I liked the irony of someone having a brilliant mind and a crumbling body. If I knew then what I know now I would never have done it. I wish I could come up with a cure.'
