The introduction quotes the Brief from the Department setting out the initial research objectives: 'The objective of the proposed pilot study is to identify the role that the ethnic press play in communicating with and reflecting the interests of individual ethnic communities, and its capacity to adapt to cultural, economic and other changes which significantly influence its readership and its own commercial viability' (p. 2).
