AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The AWM provides the following description of Deep Shallows:

'Written with frankness and unusual power, Mary Kelaher's fine novel is different in all respects from any that has appeared in the Mirror.

It is the story of ultra-modern youth, and, though the setting is a station, the scenery and routine of Outback life are left largely to the reader's imagination.

In her principal - and excellently portrayed - characters the young author boldly contrasts the ultra-modern and the near-past youth, and from the conflict and complexities of their emotions and ideals has written one of the best stories of feminine interest the Mirror has yet secured.

"Deep Shallows" will be illustrated by Mr. G. K. Townshend, whose fine pictorial work is so well-known to Mirror readers.'
