Based on the Grimm Brothers fairytale of a miller who tells the king that his daughter can spin gold out of straw. When given three nights to prove her skill or face a horrible end the daughter makes a deal with a dwarf to help her. In return he is promised her first born child. She subsequently marries the king's son and when their first child is born the dwarf returns to claim his reward.

The first established production located to date was at the Arts Theatre, Brisbane in 1984. The director was Len Crook.
