Notes
-
Dorothy Eden's books were popular in Australia and her stories and serialized novels appeared in several Australian women's magazines, The Australian Journal, The Australian Women's Weekly, Australian Woman's World and Australian Women's Mirror, and she was included in several of the Australian Reader's Digest Condensed Book selections. Two of her novels are set in Australia, Afternoon for Lizards (1961; published in U.S.A. in paperback in 1966 as Bridge of Fear) and The Vines of Yarrabee (published in UK in 1969 and later the same year in USA), whilst her long story Shadow in Beige is partly set in Sydney. Samantha is clearly based on the Tichborne affair but the claimant in the novel arrives from the West Indies not from Australia.
