Tristan Buesst was the Founder and first President of the Friends of the La Trobe Library (q.v.).

The November 1933 issue of The Home includes a brief reference to the announcement of Tristan Buesst's engagement to Marie Mackinnon (q.v.). The piece notes, 'Both young people have already made a name for themselves in the literary and artistic world. Miss Mackinnon has published some clever articles, and Mr Buesst is interested in economics, music and literature. He attended, as an Australian delegate, the Convention for Pacific Relations held in China two years ago.' (appears in the Melbourne 'Personal and Social' column)
