Ann Jean Jimmy is the mother of Connie Cooktown (q.v.). Jimmy lived at Mapoon until 1963 when it was closed down. The community moved to Bamaga and then Aurukun, before receiving permission to move to Weipa. Jimmy and her people see Mapoon as their homeland and have lobbied the government to allow them to return.
She was an Aboriginal leader, activist, poet and local government councillor.
