Actor/writer

A veteran performer whose career involved radio, television and film, two of Gwen Plumb's best remembered roles were Ada Simmonds, the 'gossip' in the Australian television soap opera The Young Doctors (1976-1983); and Emmy, in the longest-running Australian radio series Blue Hills. During her career she also hosted a radio program on Australia's Macquarie Network (1945-1974) and played Mum Foote in the TV series Richmond Hill (1988). The role had been specially created for her by Reg Watson. In 1988 she also appeared in the long-running TV soap, Home and Away (as Doris Peters).

Gwen Plumb's other career credits include The Mavis Bramston Show (as actor/writer) ; the Ben Elton mini-series Stark ; and Mrs Forbes in Neighbours. Her long-term partner was actress Thelma Scott. Plumb retired from show business in 1993. Her autobiography, Plumb Crazy, was published in 1994.
