English-born entrepreneur, filmmaker, businessman

George Marlow came to Australia as a child and during his youth performed as an actor and pianist. He worked as an actor for William Anderson in the late 1890s but turned to management in 1904 - first with Anderson and later with John Fuller Snr. He leased his first theatre in Newcastle in 1907, following this with Melbourne's Princess Theatre in 1910. The following year he bought the Princess and built the Adelphi (Syd). Marlow also toured his own dramatic companies around Australia during the 1910s, directed several films (1911-1912),and produced pantomimes, revues and revusicals into the 1930s.
