Ross McGregor's career in the Australian entertainment industry has seen him direct theatre and television, oversee several prominent theatre companies as artistic director, produce television, and teach (including courses in acting, directing and script structure). He has also been employed to structure and budget tertiary education courses.

McGregor's professional career began as a television producer with ATN7 in the 1960s. He eventually turned to theatre directing and since 1969 has directed more than 50 productions for theatre and television. He has taught directors and actors at Australia's top institutions, including the Australian Film, Television and Radio School and coached privately for television networks and performers.

As a theatre director McGregor has overseen plays for the Independent Theatre, North Sydney (notably Stockade), Q Theatre (Penrith), the Tasmanian Theatre Company, the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Eureka Theatre Company, Stables Theatre, the Canberra Repertory Society and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

McGregor's television credits include directing such series as The Restless Years (1981-83), Sons and Daughters (1984), the 1995 mini-series Fire II and Neighbours (1996-97). As a producer he worked on You Can't See Round Corners (as Assistant Producer, 1969), People in Conflict (1970), Marriage Confidential (1970), The Restless Years (1981-83) and Lipstick Dreams (1994).
