'Clarion is an intensive six week workshop for writers preparing for a professional career in speculative fiction ... The Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers' Workshop is one of the most highly regarded science fiction writing workshops in the world.'

Clarion was established in the USA in 1968 and a new organisation, Clarion South, was established in Queensland in 2002 to introduce the Clarion experience to the southern hemisphere. Clarion South conducted its first workshop during January-February 2004.
