Gilberto Ojeda was born into a farming community and completed primary school education in Uruguay. After his arrival in Australia he worked as a tool maker in a factory in New South Wales. Ojeda took up writing upon retirement and under the pen name El viejo Zoilo. He published his work in Noticias y Deportes, El Espanol en Australia, and Nosotras. In 1997 he received third prize in the Romeria del Rocio competition in Adelaide. He has also received several awards of appreciation from the Spani....
