American science-fiction author Alfred Bester was also a television and radio scriptwriter, magazine editor, and writer for comic strips/books. 'Bester established his reputation in his earliest science fiction novels', The Demolished Man (1953) and The Stars My Destination (1957; originally published with alternative title Tiger! Tiger!, 1956), influential works that have been described as 'science fiction classics'. (Source: Contemporary Authors Online)

'The fact that he remains an important and respected writer despite producing only five novels and about three dozen short stories before his death is a testimony to the profound talent that he brought to those works.'
