Ray Oldham was educated at St Mary's Church of England Girl's School and graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts. She writes about colonial architecture, history, landscape and the environment.
Married to John Oldham (q.v.), she and her husband left Perth for Sydney in 1937 after Ray lost her job at The West Australian because she was married. She worked with the Australian Women's Weekly until 1939 when she went with her husband to New York. Returning to Sydney in 1940, Ray had two daughters. The Oldhams returned to Perth in 1954 where Ray returned to feature writing and editorial work. She continued to write on architecture, with a particular interest in colonial architecture.
Both Ray and John Oldham were very active in progressive and left-leaning organisations for most of their lives.
