Born into a 'literary' family, Spodris Klauverts was interested in art and literature from childhood. His grandfather was the founder of the Latvian Society, a Latvian nationalist organisation, editor of a Latvian newspaper before the period of independence and a bookshop proprietor. His mother was a translator of Russian literature. In Australia, Klauverts was committed to promoting Latvian cultural life. He was the organiser of the first Latvian Arts Festival in 1951 and for more than twenty-f....
