BiographyHistory

Ber Isaac Rozen was a journalist and writer who was active in the Union of Jewish Writers and Journalists in Warsaw. Little is known of Rozen's time in Australia; however, it has been noted that the selected work, Portretn [Portraits] (1956), contains eleven biographical essays which he wrote between 1942-1950 while in Shanghai and Melbourne. In addition to the indexed works, Rozen produced a selected work of short stories, Roye erd (1926), which appears to have been published prior to his arrival in Australia.

The University of Sydney, 'Archive of Australian Judaica', also lists Rozen as an editor of the Yiddish literary magazine, Oyfboy, which was published in Melbourne from September 1945 to January/February 1948 by L. Fink, Oyfboy Publishing company; the journal was produced on a monthly basis and ran for twenty-six issues. Although ostensibly in Yiddish, some 'pages were in English as demanded by the law during the war years'. A set is held by the Jewish Museum, Victoria.
