Connie Christie was a prolific Melbourne-based creator of children's fantasy during the 1940s. During this period she produced on average seven books per year for seven years including her her own annual, the Connie Christie Annual (1948), various fairytales in the European tradition, alphabets, counting books and nursery rhymes. Her books were published through two Melbourne based houses, Digest Juvenile Production and Specialty Press, and would have enjoyed distribution through her existing contacts in the retail industry, including for example G. J. Coles, for whom she originally was a designer.

Christie's use of colour is eye-catching and her rosy cheeked characters are in the cupie-doll tradition. Her use of flowing lines, especially in her fantasies associated with the sea, are simultaneously other worldy, arresting and soothing.
