BiographyHistory

Elisabeth Bayly was an English writer who spent some time in both Australia and New Zealand. She wrote several novels and other works, but as far as is known, only the books listed on AustLit have Australian content. Bayly is the daughter of George Bayly (q.v.)

Miller and Macartney (Australian Literature: A Bibliography to 1938: Extended to 1950 (1956)) confuse Bayly with the New Zealand author Louisa Baker and also ascribe to Bayly the pseudonym 'Alien', which in fact belongs to Baker. They also list Bayly as the author of Colonial Life in Victoria, but this work has not been traced.
