The November 1933 issue of The Home includes a portrait of Howard Carr accompanied by a brief biographical note: 'After several years' musical experience in London theatres, Mr Howard Carr was engaged as conductor for Australia by J. C. Williamson Ltd., and during that period he directed his own symphonic poem, The Black Opal, at a Sydney concert. Returning to England, he was musical stage assistant at Covent Garden, coming again to Australia five years ago. He is one of the best known figures in the musical world of Sydney.
