The daughter of John William Partridge, Kate Partridge came to Australia as a girl. She was married ca. 1906 to Albert Ernest (Hal) Stone, the publisher, of Wayside Press. With him she edited the 1906 editions of The Wayside Goose. They lived in Adelaide for a time while Hal Stone set up the Koolinda Press at Norwood (ca. 1908) and had one son, Leon Stone.

In partnership with Cecil Warren (Raworth), using the name 'Sydney Partrige', Stone wrote several novels, not all of which were published; one such joint work was 'The Education of Clothilde', serialised in The Leader beginning 3 November 1906. Partrige also wrote several books of verse and made many contributions to periodicals. She won first prize in the novel section of the Commonwealth Women's Exhibition, 1909.
