BiographyHistory

Educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College, Katharine Burdekin was an English novelist who lived in Australia for a short time during the early 1920s. In 1915 she had married an Australian barrister, Beaufort Burdekin, and after the birth of their two daughters (in 1917 and 1920), the couple moved to Australia. Burdekin appears to have begun writing during this period and she published her first novel, Anna Colquhoun (1922), while living in Australia. Her marriage ended the same year and she subsequently returned to the United Kingdom.

The author of numerous novels, Burdekin also published works under the alternative writing name Kay Burdekin and the pseudonym Murray Constantine.
