BiographyHistory

Geologist, Antarctic explorer, and academic. Like Roald Amundesen, Robert Falcon Scott, and Ernest Shackleton, he was one of the key figures of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration (late 19th century to c. 1920). (He was also the only one of the three not to die during an expedition.)
