'Get Reading!' Goes All-Australian
Arts Minister Simon Crean has announced that the 2012 Get Reading! program will, for the first time, feature all-Australian content. (Minister's media release, 21 May 2012)
Formerly known as Books Alive, Get Reading! is ‘a month-long, nationwide campaign focused on inspiring more Australians to discover or rediscover the pleasure of reading’. The campaign is run in partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts and is built around the distribution of the free 50 Books You Can’t Put Down guide.
Kathy Keele, Australia Council CEO, says Get Reading! has promoted more than 280 Australian authors and 433 Australian books since its launch in 2000. ‘This year we're taking it a step further by making the guide 100 per cent Australian. Not only will this introduce Australians to the wealth of local treasures, it will give a boost to our local authors, publishers and booksellers.’ (Get Reading! media release, 21 May 2012)
The Get Reading! 50 Books You Can't Put Down guide will be released on 1 September. In addition to print copies, the guide will also be available online and via a mobile web app. For further information, visit the Get Reading! website.
