Hartnett and Baker Medal Nominees

Sonya Hartnett’s The Midnight Zoo has been nominated for the 2012 CILIP Carnegie Medal. Jeannie Baker’s Mirror has been nominated for the 2012 Kate Greenaway Medal.

Both medals are awarded annually by CILIP (the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals): the Carnegie is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book for children and young people, while the Kate Greenaway goes to an illustrated work from that oeuvre. Australian books that have previously won these awards include Jethro Byrde, Fairy Child and Josh.

2012 Awards nominees must have been first published in the UK between 1 September 2010 and 31 August 2011. Books first published in another country must have been co-published in the UK within three months of the original publication date. The shortlist for each medal will be announced in late March 2012. The winning titles will be announced at an awards ceremony in June 2012.
