Deadly Nominations Announced
The nominations for the 2011 Deadly Sounds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards were announced at the Sydney Opera House on Monday, 18 July. Categories include Outstanding Achievement in Literature and Film of the Year.
In the Literature category, the nominees are:
Nominees for Film of the Year include Brendan Fletcher's Mad Bastards and Ivan Sen's Toomelah.
Executive Director of the Deadlys, Gavin Jones, commented on the importance of the Deadlys to Indigenous people, noting that they recognise 'the incredible creative force and talent of our people' and demonstrate 'that we are in control of our destiny'.
