Andrea Sherwood b. 1962 (166 works by fr. 1984)

Andrea Sherwood was born of a Ukrainian father, who emigrated from Germany, and an Anglo-Celtic mother. She spent her childhood in the Upper Yarra Valley. Sherwood has a B.A. degree and a Diploma of Education from Melbourne and La Trobe Universities respectively. With some knowledge of German, she has worked as an 'emergency' teacher in Victoria, teaching English as a second language. Sherwood has been a member of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) and of the Victorian Writer's Centre. In 1991 she was awarded a grant from the Victorian Ministry of the Arts. Sherwood has acknowledged the encouragement of Phillip Mead (q.v.) who edited her first published volume of poetry. Sherwood provided editorial support for the annual, Australian Short Stories.

Andrea Goldsmith (a.k.a. Andrea Elizabeth Goldsmith) b. 1950 (48 works by fr. 1982)

Born and raised in Melbourne, Andrea Goldsmith trained as a speech pathologist and spent several years working with children. From 1987, she taught creative writing at Deakin University, and her essays have appeared in The Age, Australian Book Review and Island. Goldsmith has given frequent readings of her work and in 1992 toured north-western Victoria with the National Book Council's writers' train.

Her first published novel Gracious Living (1989), was followed by Modern Interiors in 1991, which was shortlisted for the Lysbeth Cohen Award in 1992, Facing the Music (1994) and Under the Knife (1998). Her fifth novel, The Prosperous Thief (2002) spans three continents, and is an epic covering the lives of two vastly different families.

Goldsmith's published works include essays, short stories and travel writing, this last genre based on her love of travel. She has received a grant from the Australia Council and has been involved with the Victorian Writers' Centre mentorship scheme in Melbourne.

Andrea Gawthorne b. 1958 (62 works by fr. 1988) Andrea Gawthorne is a Wollongong-based writer and has a Master of Creative Arts in writing from the University of Wollongong. Her short stories and poetry have appeared in many journals both in Australia and overseas. Her work has been performed on radio (Radio 5UV) and read at various venues including Harold Park, and Gleebooks.
Andrea Stretton b. 11 Mar 1952 d. 16 Nov 2007 (37 works by fr. 1978)

Andrea Stretton graduated from La Trobe University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts. She worked with SBS (initially in radio, but primarily in television) for over a decade and was best known for her hosting of The Book Show with Dinny O'Hearn (q.v.) Stretton worked for ABC Television from 1998 to 2001 as presenter of the Sunday Afternoon arts programme. In her final years Stretton worked in libraries and bookshops and pursued other opportunities in the arts world. She was always highly regarded for the depth and insight of her interviews with writers and arts practioners.

In 2000 Stretton was honoured by the government of France for her services in the field of the arts and literature, receiving the prestigious Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).

Stretton was diagnosed with lung cancer in early November 2007. She died two weeks later.

Andrea James (13 works by fr. 2003) Andrea James is a Yorta Yorta/Kurnai woman from north east Victoria and a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Animateuring). She has worked as the Aboriginal Arts Development Officer at the Blacktown Arts Centre, a freelance theatremaker, and the Artistic Director of the Melbourne Workers Theatre.

Andrea Lemon (a.k.a. Andrea Lee Lemon) b. 1958 (12 works by fr. 1988)

A graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1981, Andrea Lemon has worked as a barmaid, stand-up comedian and artists' model, as well as working freelance as actor, writer and director with various theatre companies in Melbourne. In 1988 she was writer in residence at Toe Truck Theatre in Sydney.

Lemon was recognised with the ABC Fringe Award for Best Script for Walking on Sticks (written with Sarah Cathcart q.v.) and was nominated for an Edinburgh Fringe First Award for Best Production (The Serpent's Fall, with Sarah Cathcart) and an Awgie Award (Dead Set Straight). As writer/director for physical theatre, Lemon was appointed as the third artistic director of Melbourne's Women's Circus in 2001.

Andrea Garivaldis b. 1958 (14 works by fr. 1994) Andrea Garivaldis was born in 1958 in Kato Zodia-Morphou, Cyprus and migrated with her parents to Australia in 1975. She holds a Master of Arts in Diasporic Literature from RMIT University, a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (ESL, Greek, Humanities) from Monash University, a Diploma in Interpreting and Translating from the National Accredited Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), and a Diploma in Information Technology from Monash University. Garivaldis has received prizes for her poetry, some of which has appeared in anthologies in Australia, Greece (Poietries hellenikes katagoges ste Voreia Amerike, Australia kai Germania), Cyprus (Xeniteia: anthologia), and America (Poetic Voices of America, 1997). Andrea Kwast studied short story writing and creative writing, completing certificates. She pursued English and Communications at the University of New England, Armidale, Australia completing her degree in 2006. Kwast expanded her studies, qualifying as a proofreader and then a book editor, focusing on fiction manuscripts. In 2009, she founded Tell Me a Story Books where she developed tutoring workshops in English and Creative Writing. During this time, Kwast obtained a certificate in non-fiction writing. She has developed several creative writing workbooks including a workbook for Autistic kids. In 2014 she returned to study to complete a Masters of English. Andrea Mayes b. 1955 (7 works by fr. 1999) Andrea Mayes was born in the north of England and emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria in 1979. She lived on the Victorian peninsula. Mayes wrote stories and poetry from childhood but did not write with serious intent until 1998. She has published online, in literary magazines, anthologies and newspapers and appeared on radio for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. She has won numerous short story competitions.

Andreas N. Triandafyllopoulos (a.k.a. Andreas Triantaphyllopoulos; Andreas Triantafyllopoulos) b. 1943 (17 works by fr. 1976) Andreas Triandafyllopoulos was born in Pelekanada, Messinia, Greece. He completed high school in Athens and studied for two years at the Piraeus Industrial College. Before emigrating he lived for one year in Germany as a guest worker. In Australia he worked as a fitter and turner and as a teacher at Greek Community afternoon schools. In 1971 he won first prize in a short story competition run by the periodical Domino (Athens) and in 1978 he won second prize for poetry in the competition of the Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne. His song lyrics won the first and second prizes at the 1983 Seventh Festival of Greek Song in Melbourne.

Greg Andreas (4 works by fr. 1982) Greg Andreas is of Greek background and has written and had his work performed in English.
