History
The Alan Marshall Short Story Award, founded in 1985, is presented by Nillumbik Shire Council in partnership with Yarra Plenty Regional Library.
In 2018, Nillumbik Shire reviewed their literary prizes: the new Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing, now biennial, includes the Alan Marshall Short Story Award, but introduces a new genre award (next awarded in 2020). The Alan Marshall Short Story Award was not awarded in 2019, as a result of the restructure.
Alan Marshall (1902-1984) was the author of I Can Jump Puddles and This is the Grass. He was born at Noorat, Victoria, a country area which he used as a setting for many of his stories.
