History

In 2010 The Balnaves Foundation announced it would partner with Belvoir to support the presentation of two Indigenous works as per year as part of Belvoir's annual season.

To further their commitment to the telling of indigenous stories through theatre the Foundation has committed $20 000 per year to an annual award to an indigenous playwright.' 'WHEN Jaru playwright Kodie Bedford was named as the 2018 Balnaves Foundation Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellowship winner. she was thrilled. "I didn't believe it at first because this award has gone out to some of the best venters in the country." Ms Bedford said "During the application process I had to pitch an idea for a play I wanted to write. but the experience at Be'you. wasn't Just about writing the play and the amazing end product.'

'Yuin woman Jorjia Gillis has been awarded the 2020 Balnaves Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellowship. A S25.000 paid residency, the Balnaves Foundation Fellowship gives the fellow the opportunity to work at BeIvolr, in Sydney. as a resident artist to create a work for the stage.'
