(Display Format : Landscape)Searching AustLit's Full Text Collection
AustLit's full text collection has been fully integrated into the advanced search, so you can now search across authors, bibliographic details, as well as keywords within the texts themselves. AustLit has over 1000 digitised texts, including a large collection of historical Australian children's literature, critical articles, and a new collection of classic Australian science fiction.
The image slide show above illustrates the key points for using this new search feature.
All texts can now be searched from the "AustLit Full Text" area in the advanced search (slide 1 above). Once you have the list of resulting works, if you click on the orange "F" (slide 2), the full text will open at the first occurrence of the search term (slide 3). The chapter menu on the left will also show where else the keyword occurs in the text (slide 4). Hovering over the magnifying glass in the menu will show snippets of text within that chapter where the search term is found (slide 5). Once a text has been opened, a search can be conducted within that text using the search box on the right (slide 6). The text can also be downloaded in a number of formats, including PDF, ePub, and plain text (slide 6).
The most powerful thing about the new full text search is that it can be used in conjunction with other search parameters; for example, we can look for occurrences of the word "bunyips" among female authors (filled-out search form), poems with the word "bunyips" in them (filled-out search form).
