Described as 'an every day sculpture poet', Maayken grew up in Amsterdam but has made Australia her home. Through paper sculpting Maayken has sought 'to combine her talents into one product, welding [original] poetry with three dimensional form'. Her work draws on a background of bookbinding and papermaking.

Queensland-based, Maayken has lived and worked on Bribie Island.
