BiographyHistory

Varagnolo appears to have come to Australia on the ship Castel Verde which left Trieste on the 15 March, 1954 laden with immigrants from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy. He founded Associazione Guiliani Sydney, the association of people from the region. He held the presidency and was active as an office bearer, including overseeing their bulletin. In 2001 he was President of the Federation of Clubs Giuliano-Dalmati of Australia. On the association web site he is listed as a building contractor. He has published poetry in Australia as well as having written radio plays such as the five part comedy A Villa in Lightning Ridge which aired on SBS radio's Italian program in 2007. Another radio drama in two parts, The Shortcut, originally a short story about his coming to Australia more than fifty years ago, was adapted and aired on the Italian Broadcasting Corporation (RAI) in 2006.
