Dina Amanatides was born in Meligalas in the Messinia region, Greece. In 1951 she went from Messinia to Athens, finishing the Fifth High School for Girls. From 1958 she published her work in Greek-Australian newspapers and journals and contributed literary programs on Radio 3ZZ and Radio 3EA from 1974. Amanatides has been Vice President of the Greek-Australian Cultural League and a member of the Multicultural Writers Association of Victoria, the Migrant Women Writers Group, the Society of Women Writers, (Victorian Branch) and the Greek Women's Cultural Association.
