Educated in England, Canada and New Zealand, Brogden worked extensively as a freelance journalist. He was also at one time on the staff of ABC news in Melbourne. He was a fellow of the Bread and Cheese Club.
During World War II Brogden was a private in the Australian Army Medical Corps and then in the Army Education Service.
In addition to the titles listed, Brogden has written a number of other books about aviation, travel and sport, including First to Fly: From Roger Bacon to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith [195-]. He also edited the RAAF journal Wings.
