BiographyHistory

Margaret Lynette (Nette) Hilton writes novels in the psychological thriller mode, as well as literature for children and young adults. Hilton grew up in the Victorian country town of Gippsland, before moving to Sydney at the age of eleven. Her experiences in adapting to city life and high school culture during this period have had a long-lasting influence on her writing.

Educated at Wollongong University and Southern Cross University, Hilton has worked in offices and a sheep station, and been a primary school teacher in New South Wales. As well as writing and teaching, Hilton has also been involved with the Nestlé Write-Around-Australia Competition. She has been a mentor for the finalists in this competition, and a regular visitor to schools around the country. In 1991, she was awarded a Fellowship from the Literature Board of the Australia Council.

Hilton has published in the genres of children's fiction, short stories and young adult fiction. She has also written readers for children.
