Colleen Klein was educated at Parramatta High School before attending Sydney University where she was awarded prizes for English Literature. While Klein's early work took the form of poetry written under the tutelage of the reputed Australian poet A. D. Hope (q.v.), her creative interest later turned to writing short fiction and to what she describes as her 'chief preoccupation', the novel.
