While studying arts and law at the University of Queensland, Peter Annand was associated with the poetry magazine, Makar, as co-editor (1969-72) and contributor. His poems were collected in two volumes in the Gargoyle Poets series: The Long-Distance Poets Entry into Heaven (1973) and These Ducks and Other Poems (1977). In 1972, Annand received a Rhodes Scholarship to study law at Magdalen College, Oxford. He subsequently lectured in law at the University of Bristol and later worked for an international merchant bank in London.
