'CLARE ASHLEIGH goes home and finds a young American in her flat. He pretends that he is in the flat of a friend for whom he has been waiting, and strangely enough the statement proves true. After he has fed with the damsel and arranged for her to feed with him, he leaves. Clare goes into her bedroom and finds a corpse. The corpse turns out to be — perhaps we had better not say, but that is the beginning of a murder mystery which even the most hardened detective reader will not easily solve.'
