In this story, the narrator/protagonist, a Chinese Australian woman, describes how she becomes the model and mistress of an established Chinese Australian artist. The protagonist leaves the artist when she finds out that he is indifferent to her feelings after she falls pregnant. Upon a chance meeting two years later, the narrator comes to the realisation that what she believes as true love between her and the artist is nothing but an illusion.
