  • Dedication: Jerzemu [Broszkiewiczowi] [To Jerzy [Broszkiewicz]]
  • Author's note: 4 January 1940
  • The poem refers to the effect on the poet of a pianist's playing of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude. The pianist was the dedicatee, Jerzy Broszkiewicz, a young Polish musician living, like the author, in German-occupied Lvov, who was later to become a well-known playwright and theatre director.
