Editor's note:Lieutenant Adrian Consett Stephen (1892-1918) of the Royal Field Artillery was a promising young playwright, killed in action in March 1918. In June 1916, he survived the trenches at the Somme and then recounted his experiences with a playwright's ear for dialogue.
