A. Bertram Chandler's Empress Irene series comprises three novellas set outside the Rim Worlds and in the human controlled part of the Galaxy. Although considered separate to the John Grimes/ Rim Worlds stories, the two series do meet up in the novella, The Dark Dimensions.
