Mystery of the Mine Murders, H. H. Wilson , single work short story detective
Two mine managers have been murdered and Mr Duncan, the mine manager, is nervous. Detective Fleming feels that, rather than union miners being responsible, it could be an unbalanced man committing the crimes. When Denver, a man who recently returned to the town, invites Duncan to an abandoned mine for a meeting, Fleming encourages Duncan to go and sets his men on watch. Unfortunately two other men follow Duncan and one is murdered before Fleming captures Denver.
