(p. 3, 35-36)This article, the first of a series, tells the story of William Buckley, of Chester England who joined the militia, fought in Holland and, when convicted of receiving stolen goods, was eventually transported to Australia. He escaped from Sullivan Bay near Sorrento and lived with Aboriginal Australians for thirty years before discovering a group of men who were the advance party for John Batman. He returned with them and received his free pardon.
